Starting to write your book isn't easy: there's so much to do, plus you don't know if this story is something you'd want to keep on with... But now it's not the moment to think about this. Now, it's the moment to START WRITING!
Disclaimer: these are not rules. These are tips.
Make sure you have all you need to start
Set up your computer, or sharpen your pencil, or have your new pen ready: don't let anything distract you from a good work session. Also: make sure you are in a place where you can write without anything to distract you.
Clear your mind from doubts of all kinds (about yourself, the book, etc.)
This is not the time to think about the fact that you think you're not a good enough writer (you are), or that the book won't interest an audience, or anything else. Keep your mind on that one thing that made you think you wanted to write!
Sit down and set a timer. Do all you can in that time.
This is a thing that helps me a lot when I feel doubtful or I don't want to do something: I set a time in which I will have to do as much as I can, but as soon as the alarm goes off, I'm done. You will be surprised at how much you can get done this way.
Research plenty
Don't hold back on the research! Especially if you're writing about a community that you don't know, or if you're writing a story in a situation you're not familiar with (think spies, lawyers, hospital settings, etc.)
Find songs, pictures, concepts that inspire you
Delve into the things that really made the story vivid to you. This way it will be easier for you to describe it to the reader.
Don't force the process too much
Don't think of the finished product yet: hold back for a little. This moment is for pure creativity.
Don't follow rules that kill your creativity
You will find tips and rules that won't apply to you. It's simple: ignore them. These tips might have the only aim of making you understand that you don't think they might work, and that's fine!
